Varsity girls tennis pummels Valley Center 17-1

FALLBROOK – The varsity girls tennis team played its first preseason match at the Fallbrook Tennis Club on Sept. 2, overwhelming Valley Center, 17-1. Although only the total number of winning sets is used in determining the winner of the competition, the level of domination can be seen in the fact Fallbrook won 97 games compared to Valley Center’s 17.

Number one starter, Hailey Johnson, won her first two matches, 6-0 and 6-0, before being replaced by Shanice Creighton, who continued Hailey’s winning ways with a 6-1 victory. The number two starter, Jessica Willett, easily won all three of her matches, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. Making her debut as a singles starter was Rachelle Jacobs, a JV player last year, who won 6-0 and 6-1, falling only to Valley Center’s number one starter, Remy Littrell, 1-6. It was Rachelle that Coach Dave Ramirez singled out for her excellent play, being thrust into the spotlight of starting singles competition.

The doubles teams all went undefeated. Tanya Hasvold/Skyler Schaar won 6-2, 6-2, 6-0. Emily Donnelly/Jenna Willett won 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. Hailey Hicks/Ainsley Taylor won 6-2, 6-1, 6-0. Assistant coach, Linda Johnson, commented on the excellent teamwork of the doubles teams in executing the aggressive strategy that is the team’s desired style of play.

All team members will soon start competing in the North County Titan Doubles Tournament, with many of the opposing teams owning CIF titles or league titles, such as Torrey Pines and Cathedral Catholic.
