County places moratorium on Williamson Act contracts

The County of San Diego has placed a moratorium on new Williamson Act contracts.

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors’ 4-0 vote September 28, with Ron Roberts in Washington, DC, suspends new participation in the county’s Williamson Act/County Agricultural Preserve Program until September 28, 2015, although the moratorium can end earlier if the county supervisors vote to do so.

“The county’s response is reasonable in the face of an unreasonable action by the state,” said San Diego County Farm Bureau executive director Eric Larson.

The State of California passed the Williamson Act in 1965....
