Lance Cpl. John T. Sparks killed in combat

SAN DIEGO - The Pentagon released the name today of a 23-year-old Camp Pendleton-based Marine killed in combat last week in Afghanistan.

Lance Cpl. John T. Sparks of Chicago, Ill., died in Helmand Province on Friday, according to the Department of Defense.

Sparks was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force....
