Existing SR76 alignment makes sense

The existing alignment is the only route that makes sense. The southern alignment will cost 267 percent more than the existing alignment. Caltrans owns most of the right-of-way for the existing alignment and would have to acquire numerous farms and equestrian ranches for the southern route.

Since a good portion of the southern route is in the flood plane, portions of the route will have to be elevated. This route will require at least four new bridges and the environmental impact of the alignment and the bridges will have to be mitigated. Access to a southern alignment will be limited and impact police, fire protection and public access.

Additionally, Fallbrook NIMBYs think its okay to trash Bonsall for their convenience. So much for the Friendly Village image advertised. In their scenario, the existing SR76 would become a county road for their convenience and you and I would have to pay the additional county cost to improve and maintain their “private road.”

The Village News banner reads “The Fallbrook/Bonsall Village News”. This is grossly misleading. Since the Village News is obviously biased in supporting Fallbrook in all matters impacting Fallbrook/Bonsall, Bonsall should be removed from its banner. It is disturbing that the Village News chooses to publish articles supporting the southern route without contacting anyone who opposed the southern route. Is this one-sided, biased reporting by the managing editor an example of what constitutes fair and balanced reporting from the Village News?

Bonsall Area for a Rural Community

Editor's Note: Despite Mr. Walson's rather colorful and impassioned claim, the Village News merely reports on what occurs at meeting such as this one. Neither the writer nor the paper has endorsed one route alternative over the other.
