140 netters participate at Fallbrook Junior Satellite tournament

The 26th Annual Fallbrook Junior Satellite Tournament which took place September 11-19 at the Fallbrook Tennis Club attracted 140 participants.

"It was really a nice tournament," said tournament organizer Dorothy Roth.

The competitors came from San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, and Orange Counties with Oregon and Colorado residents also participating. Several families had multiple siblings in the tournament.

"The whole family would come out," Roth said. "They made it a family event, not just dropping the kids off."

In addition to championship matches, the tournament also had consolation matches. "The kids get real match experience," Roth said.

Nikolai Rudametkin of San Ysidro won the Boys 18 Singles championship after taking a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Denver, Colorado, player Sam Cunningham in the final round. The Girls 18 Singles championship match involved two Vista players and saw Jordyn Hoover defeat Brittany Scism in 6-3 and 6-4 sets.

Chris Tanael of Carlsbad won the Boys 16 Singles championship after a 6-1, 6-3 victory over San Diego's Matt Rosi in the finals. Nicole Sadowsky of Rancho Santa Fe was the Girls 16 Singles champion after taking 6-4 and 6-0 victories over Temecula's Megan Williams in the championship round. The Mixed 16 Doubles championship round saw the Rancho Santa Fe duo of Chris Kuba and Kendal McGinnis earn 7-5 and 6-4 victories over Fallbrook players Skyler Schaar and Scott Schoenheit.

Schaar played up a level in the doubles matches and also reached the finals of the Girls 14 Singles before a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Sofia Romo of Calexico. Ivan Rudametkin earned the Boys 14 Singles title with a three-set victory in the final round against Jonathan Ross of San Diego. The first set was tied at six games apiece before Rudametkin won the tiebreaking game by a 7-5 score, Ross came back with a 6-4 victory in the second set, and Rudametkin won the match and championship with a 6-4 triumph in the third set.

Nik Speshilov of San Diego won two championships at the tournament. He teamed with Leo Santos of San Diego to win the Boys 12 Doubles title, which had a round-robin format, while taking a pair of 6-3 sets from San Diego's Fernando Santos in the finals of the Boys 12 Singles division.

The Boys 10 Singles finals started with Carlsbad's Ethan Baurle winning a 6-4 set against San Diego's Jasdeep Paintal. The second set was tied at six games apiece before a 7-5 win in the tiebreaking game gave Paintal the set. Baurle won the third set by a 6-4 score to take the march and championship.

The Girls 10 Singles championship match between San Diego's Mckenzy Schroeder and Calexico's Tomi Felix-Chavez required Schroeder to take an 8-6 victory in the tiebreaking game to win the first set. Schroeder's 6-0 victory in the second set gave

her the championship.

Lexie Shomo of Escondido won the Girls 8 Singles title after taking a pair of 6-1 sets from Fallbrook's Chloe Roehr in the finals.

Roth noted that volunteers helped with desk duties during the tournament. "

We appreciate the number of volunteers that help us with these tournaments," she said. "That was a nice aspect as well."
