Two Pendleton-based Marines, Tawney and Villarreal, killed in combat

SAN DIEGO - The Pentagon released the names today of two Camp Pendleton-based Marines who died in combat in Afghanistan.

Killed in Helmand Province on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, were Sgt. Ian M. Tawney, 25, of Dallas, Ore.; and Cpl. Jorge Villarreal Jr., 22, of San Antonio, Texas, according to the Department of Defense.

Tawney was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force. Villarreal belonged to the 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I MEF....
