Angels approve funding for seniors, launch website

FALLBROOK – Over $7,043 in funds benefiting three different non-profit community groups providing support for seniors was approved at the September meeting of the board of directors of the Angel Society of Fallbrook, a local philanthropy. Funds are raised through the sale of merchandise at the organization’s thrift store, the Angel Shop, on Main Avenue.

Topping the list of recipients at $5,000 was the Foundation for Senior Care, which has served the greater Fallbrook area for 30 years. It supports seniors through the operation of two care vans, an adult day care center, and a senior care advocate program in which volunteers assist seniors in their homes.

A donation of $1,500 was approved for the Training, Education and Research Institute (TERI), which serves individuals with developmental and learning disabilities. Headquartered in Oceanside, the organization operates 11 group homes, including one in Fallbrook. The funds will help pay for improvements at this home, which houses six men age 46 through 55.

SeniorNet Learning Center was also awarded its request for over $540 to purchase an air conditioner for a computer classroom. SeniorNet has offered instruction on the use of computers for seniors in the community since 1998.

In other business, the philanthropy has launched its first Web site at http://www.theangelsociety.org,

which features links to its monthly newsletter, photos, tips for volunteers, opportunities to donate, and more.

“We’re very pleased that we now have a presence on the Internet, not only to stay in better touch with our members, some of whom live out-of-state, but also with the community at large,” said Angel Society president Gloria Seelye.
