FALLBROOK – Jackie Heyneman of Save Our Forest (Fallbrook Land Conservancy) has commended a local church youth group for volunteering their services to improve downtown Fallbrook.
Heyneman says the youth group, ‘For His Kingdom,’ from the Fallbrook Apostolic Assembly have embarked on multiple work sessions to refinish the wooden benches along Main Ave in the historic downtown area.
“They are making a great contribution to the Fallbrook community,” says Heyneman. “Recently, they have had two work sessions to refinish the benches [on Main]; it is a tedious job, filling the cracks caused by the weather, sanding the fill and the graffiti and then painting. It is sorely needed and greatly appreciated.”
Other members of the youth group have volunteered their time to pick up trash along the Pico Promenade.
“As an unincorporated community, none of these caretaker-type services are done unless by volunteers,” says Heyneman. “It is especially meaningful when these young people see and sense the need to volunteer for their community.”
Save Our Forest initiated the bench adoptions as well as the tree adoptions to augment the tree maintenance fund that pays for professional care of hundred of trees it has planted in Fallbrook over the past 15 years. Volunteers donated some 3,000 hours last year to the project. Heyneman says other groups or individuals interested in helping out with this community project are welcome to call her at (760) 728-5395 for more information.
