Camp Pendleton Marines to conduct mine-clearing exercise today

CAMP PENDLETON - Starting today, Marines at Camp Pendleton will fire high-explosive munitions as part of a mine-clearing exercise that will likely be heard throughout the North County.

The exercises are scheduled to take place in the base's Zulu impact area, from 6 a.m. to midnight today through Wednesday, according to Camp Pendleton's public affairs office.

Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away, the office advised.
