FALLBROOK – Kicking off its 2010-11 Virtuoso Series in spectacular fashion, Fallbrook Music Society will showcase one of the brightest instrumental talents to emerge out of central Europe today.
Croatian-born pianist Martina Filjak will present a dazzling performance on Sunday, Nov. 14, with homage to the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth. In addition, she will perform some of the most difficult works in piano literature by composers such as Soler, Prokoviev, Scriabin and Balakirev.
Filjak received a first-place victory at the prestigious Cleveland International Piano Competition in 2009. Besides taking first place overall, Filjak received two additional prizes for best performance of Beethoven and best of contemporary music. In addition to a cash prize as part of her award, Filjak received a CD recording on the Naxos label, two years of artist management and more than 50 worldwide engagements, including a New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall.
Since making her orchestral debut at the age of 12 with Croatia’s renowned Zagreb Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Filjak has achieved a graceful transition from a child prodigy to a mature artist of both technical prowess and elegant artistry.
The Martina Filjak concert will take place at 3 p.m. in the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts, 2400 S. Stage Coach Lane in Fallbrook.
Tickets are $38 adult, $10 for full-time students with I.D., and are available by calling Fallbrook Music Society at (760) 451-8644, or online at
