PALA – A popular local resort will be donating bathroom amenities in an effort to help prevent worldwide disease.
Pala Casino Spa & Resort has partnered with Clean the World Foundation, an international foundation based in Orlando, Fla., that recycles bath soap, shampoo and other amenities, and gives them to countries around the world to help prevent sickness and death, especially among young children.
As part of its Planet Pala environmental recycling program, the Pala hotel staff on a daily basis will collect slightly used bars of bath soap and amenity bottles of shampoo, hair conditioner and body lotion from its hotel rooms and donate them to Clean the World.
“Clean the World’s goal is to save one million lives next year,” said Bill Bembenek, Pala’s chief executive officer. “Many will be children under the age of five. We are very proud to become a hospitality partner and help create an impact for this vital program.”
Pala has 507 hotel rooms and suites. Based on estimates from Clean the World, Pala will provide a minimum of 547 pounds of soap per month or 70,063 bars of soap that will be distributed during the next year. Pala will provide 408 pounds of bottled amenities per month or 34,486 bottles of product for redistribution and 17,423 recycled plastic bottles.
Since its founding, Clean the World has collected and distributed 680,000 pounds (340 tons) of soap, shampoo and other amenities to 29 countries and over 20 homeless shelters, missions, women’s homes and food kitchens in the United States.
