I wish to thank the Fallbrook voters for electing me to the Fallbrook Public Utility District Seat 4 with the resounding margin of 58 percent of the vote. I promise to work hard to reduce FPUD’s terribly high water rates and I will keep all FPUD ratepayers informed; no secrets. I will need and welcome ratepayers’ help and maybe we, as a team, can get control of the extreme costs of FPUD’s water which is really the green power lifeblood of Fallbrook.
I will not be a clone of FPUD’s general manager. Anyone hired as FPUD general manager, in my opinion, must be here in Fallbrook a minimum of five eight-hour days a week, and not approximately one day a week as at present.
The “Watchdog” of the Union Tribune (10/10/10, page A1) reported that FPUD’s general manager receives a “total annual compensation” of $279, 922.17 to manage a $35 million average budget. In comparison, city managers receive $204,000 on average to manage $276 million average budgets.
This, to me, is not acceptable and some board members have claimed the high cost of FPUD water has only been due to increases in costs from the water authorities. My water costs increased by 32 percent for the exact same amount of water used in July 2008 compared to July 2010 and I am certain the water authorities did not raise their rates by 32 percent over the last two years.
