SAN DIEGO - Fallbrook was among eight school districts and a charter school in San Diego County that received a combined $3 million in federal technology grants, it was announced today.
The lion's share of the funding went to the San Diego Unified School District and Sweetwater Union High School District, which received $1 million each from the Enhancing Education Through Technology competitive grants.
The Grossmont Union High School District was awarded $500,000, and the San Marcos Unified School District got $250,000.
Grants of $50,000 each went to the San Diego County Office of Education, Escondido Union School District, Fallbrook Union Elementary School District, Carlsbad Unified School District and Charter School of San Diego.
''These grants will help schools use data effectively to improve student achievement and close the achievement gap,'' said Jack O'Connell, the state superintendent of public instruction.
''With the state budget crisis continuing, our cash-strapped schools desperately need these funds as soon as possible so they can use education data and technology to better prepare students for college or careers,'' he said.
California school districts and education agencies were awarded a total of $36 million.
