Re: 'The crumbling of Main Street shops' [Letter, Village News, 12/16/10]

I just wanted to express my feelings in regards to Ms. Brazel’s comments.

We had a bookstore and due to a lack of customers, it closed. But, we have a temporary library open on Main Street. And Fallbrook is going to have a wonderful new library very soon. See you there!

We also had a music store that also closed due to a lack of customers. I was there all the time. I never saw anyone else. Hmm.

The comment on the gypsy dress shop: you have obviously not been in there. I am a 54-year-old woman who buys most all my clothes - from casual to dressy - there. They also have an assortment of clothing and jewelry for kids from high school age up to women in their 70s and 80s. I shop for clothing for my mother there. The prices are very reasonable and the staff goes out of their way to assist with any of my needs.

Regarding baby clothing: we have a number of thrift shops that sell baby clothing for pennies on the dollar. The clothing is slightly used and many times new. My favorite shop (St. Vincent de Paul) and other thrift shops give back to our community. It’s a win-win situation.

I love staying away from the hustle and bustle and find most all my needs here. Well, I voiced my opinion.

Happy Holidays to all!

Deborah Donnelly
