Marine from Camp Pendleton killed in crash on 805

SAN DIEGO (Wire Service) - A driver lost control of a pickup truck that crashed into a tow truck parked alongside a rain-slick freeway transition road early today, killing a 19-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, authorities said.

The victim, whose name was being withheld until authorities could notify his family, died at the scene of the 2:31 a.m. crash, the Medical Examiner's office reported.

He was the front-seat passenger in a 2008 Ford Ranger whose driver lost control on the northbound Interstate 805 transition ramp to Interstate 8, according to the California Highway Patrol.
