UNITED STATES - A recent study of 21,000 baby boomers found those who smoked more than two packs a day were 157 percent more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than non-smokers, and were 172 percent more likely to be diagnosed with vascular dementia, the second most common form of dementia.
The study, published in the archives of Internal Medicine, also determined those who smoked a half-pack to one pack a day had a 37 percent higher risk of dementia, and those who smoked between one and two packs a day had a 44 percent greater risk.
