St. Peter's prays for peace

Some men, women and children – members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church - gathered to pray for peace throughout the community in a public square rosary, praying to the Virgin Mary on Oct. 15.

According to Socorro Garcia, the individual who was in charge of decorating the icon, over 60 Spanish-speaking individuals gathered near 111 W. Mission Rd. to participate in a worldwide prayer chain. Manuel Orozco was the coordinator for the rosary.

“There were also about 20 children present,” she said. “This is the first time the Fallbrook community has had a Spanish public square rosary, though I believe the English-speaking believers also had a rosary.”

Though the weather was warm, Garcia said the individuals involved were happy to spend time together while praying for the community’s peace.

“We just stood under umbrellas as we prayed the Rosary and the Fatima prayer,” she explained.

According to a website regarding Catholic prayer, the Fatima prayer is a call from the Mother of God for a renewed fidelity to penance and prayer, which basically is the message of the Gospel.
