Angel Society donations top $14,000

FALLBROOK – A total of $14,300 in donations to several local, non-profit groups was approved by the board of directors of the Angel Society of Fallbrook at its October meeting.

A total of $3,000 was awarded to Save Our Forest (SOF), a division of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy (FLC) charged with helping to keep Fallbrook rural and green through reforestation of oak woodlands. SOF will utilize the funds for pruning, routine maintenance, and ongoing replacement of trees and supplies.

The Trails Council, another group under the auspices of the FLC, was also given $3,000 to assist in the creation and maintenance of trails and pathways. The funds will go towards the upkeep of equipment, the purchase of commercial hedgers and weed whackers, as well as for supplies to repair and maintain the Santa Margarita River trails.

The Fallbrook School of the Arts received $2,500 in funds to help support its 2012 children and youth arts education program, which features an annual art exhibit. “Animals in their Habitats” will be the theme of next year’s 19th Annual Junior Wildlife Art Exhibit.

Women’s Resource Center, which is based in Oceanside, was awarded $2,000 to help provide supportive services, counseling, shelter and education to families in North San Diego County involved in or threatened by domestic violence or sexual assault.

A total of $2,000 in support was given to the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance, which works to remove graffiti and is responsible for planting and maintaining the South Mission Road medians, the flower pots along Main Avenue, and the Beech St. Park and Pico Promenade.

La Paloma Elementary School Science Enrichment Club received $1,800 in support for its 24-week program introducing students to a variety of sciences with hands-on experiments. At the end of the program, participants will attend workshops and compete in the all-day Science Field Day event at the San Diego County Office of Education. La Paloma hopes to offer the program to 60 students this year.

The Angel Society of Fallbrook raises funds through the operation of its all-volunteer run Angel Shop, a thrift shop on Main Avenue. For more information, visit
