Angel Society distributes $20,000 to various causes

FALLBROOK - A total of $20,000 in donations to several worthy local causes was approved by the Angel Society of Fallbrook’s board of directors at its December meeting.

The Boys and Girls Club of North County was awarded $10,000 for its upcoming April 2012 signature fundraising event of the year. This donation will aid in the continuance of critical programs and activities serving over 1,100 children and their families.

Five thousand dollars ($5,000) was awarded to the Santa’s Toy Project which “adopts” families from Camp Pendleton YMCA. By October they had received 1,000 requests from families needing help at Christmas; last year the count was 1,400 requests. The Project’s goal is to help as many families as possible.

Live Oak Park Coalition was awarded $2,000 in support to assist in the improvements, care, and management of the park which is used by the entire community.

One thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500) was awarded Palomar Family Counseling Service which provides counseling services to children and families living in Fallbrook who are without health insurance or other means to pay for needed mental health services.

Fallbrook Union High School PTSA, with previous donations, set up a “Student Assistance Fund.” In support of this fund, an award of $1,000 was given to further help students financially in ways to help improve their school experiences such as enabling them to purchase Prom tickets and supplies for the academic team. Such funds are considered very carefully and require teacher recommendation.

Ivy High School was awarded $500 in support of hosting a holiday meal for students, which is one of their traditional mentoring activities not budgeted and therefore must rely on outside help.

The Angel Society of Fallbrook raises funds through its all-volunteer operation of the Angel Shop, a thrift shop on Main Ave., Fallbrook. For more information, visit http://www.theangelsociety.org.
