FALLBROOK – The Angel Society of Fallbrook celebrated more than $3 million in giving to the community at its 35th annual luncheon and meeting held on May 23 at the Pala Mesa Resort.
“Touched by Angels” was the theme of the event “because it is hard to live in Fallbrook and not be touched by the Angel Society,” noted President Marylyn Miller. The luncheon was attended by nearly 230 members of the organization and also featured a fashion show, silent auction and raffle, with special sales of jewelry, linens and other “treasures.”
A highlight of the event was a special presentation honoring members Anne Kroeze, Bonnie Bell and Donna Boren for “their long and devoted service.” All three are founding members of the group’s original board of directors and have volunteered 35 consecutive years as active members of the board. Their names will be added to the Angel wall at the entrance to the Angel Shop.
In presenting the group’s annual financial report, treasurer Sharon Daniels recalled the Angel Society’s first year in 1978, when “a handful of women” opened the Angel Shop, a thrift store in Fallbrook, which raises funds for the organization.
“They were excited to report that they had given over $21,500 to charity,” Daniels said. “Today, we are thrilled to tell you that the Angels have now given over $3 million.”
Daniels noted that charitable giving totaled $118,425 for the fiscal year May 1, 2012 through April 30, 2013, including $15,000 in college scholarships for FUHS seniors.
In addition, the Angels contributed recycled goods valued at more than $110,000 to 16 different organizations. These donations included 154 bibles to North Coast Church; 5,600 books to North County Solutions for Change and another eight boxes of books to Friends of the Fallbrook Library; 415 pairs of eyeglasses that are redistributed by the Lion’s Club; 2,975 bags of clothing and 361 boxes of miscellany to the San Diego Rescue Mission; 72 boxes of toiletries to Interfaith Community Services and Women’s Resource Center; as well as assorted clothing and other items to the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary, Arts in the Park, Boys and Girls Club, Christ the King Church, Emmanuel Faith Church, Rally for Children, Senior Care and United States Marine Corps.
During the 2012 through 2013 fiscal year, the Angel Society gave to a total of 60 Fallbrook-based, non-profit organizations. From June 1978 through April 2013, the group’s philanthropy totals $3,052,569.
“As always, the credit goes to our Angels who support us with their dues and volunteer their time and talent, and to the members of our community who support our shop with their generous donations of merchandise for us to sell,” Daniels said.
“Together, we make the Angel Society a success and a valuable asset to our community.”
