Professor to speak about the relationship between wildfires and climate change

FALLBROOK – Richard Minnich is a professor of earth sciences at University of California Riverside and an expert on the fire ecology of Southern California. He will speak at the Fallbrook Library, 124 S. Mission Road, on Monday, Sept. 25, starting at 6 p.m. He will discuss the influence of climate change on the wildfire season. The talk is presented by the Fallbrook Climate Action Team.

Minnich forecasts the probability of fire risks throughout Southern California based on meteorological and historical records, aerial photographs and ecological studies. He is the author of 40 publications. As a California native, he grew up appreciating the natural beauty of the mountain forests and chaparral. He writes frequently about native vegetation, climate change and the growing wildfire season.
