California Department of Tax and Fee Administration offers tax relief for businesses impacted by fires

SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration is offering tax relief to those impacted by the fires in Southern California.

Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. issued emergency proclamations for Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties due to the effects of the Creek, Rye, Lilac and Thomas fires. All tax and fee payers affected by these fires may request extensions to file returns and relief from penalties or interest.

Tax and fee payers may request relief from penalties and interest and ask for an extension of time to file their tax or fee returns either online or by calling CDTFA’s Customer Service Center toll-free at (800) 400-7115, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays.

These taxes and fees qualify for extensions: Sales and Use Taxes; Lead-Acid Battery Fee; Underground Storage Tank Maintenance Fee; Natural Gas Surcharge; Energy Resources Surcharge; Emergency Telephone Users Surcharge; Cigarettes and Tobacco Products Taxes and Licensing; Water Rights Fee; Fuel Taxes, including Diesel Fuel Tax, Interstate User Tax, Use Fuel Tax, Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax and Jet Fuel Tax; Prepaid Mobile Telephony Services Surcharge; Oil Spill Response, Prevention and Administration Fee; Lumber Products Assessment; Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Fee; Integrated Waste Management Fee; Occupational Lead Poisoning Prevention Fee; Covered Electronic Waste Recycling or eWaste Fee; Marine Invasive Species Fee, including Ballast Water Management Fee; California Tire Fee; Timber Yield Fee and Hazardous Waste Fees, including Environmental Fee, Generator fee, Disposal Fee and Facility Fee.

Recent legislation created the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration to administer the taxes and fees previously collected by the Board of Equalization, with the exception of Property Tax, Alcoholic Beverage Tax and Insurance Tax.
