Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary proves safe haven for pets during Lilac Fire

FALLBROOK – Many people in Fallbrook and Bonsall were asked to evacuate and leave the area Dec. 7 as the Lilac Fire started to escalate and spread. As people started to scatter into neighboring towns and cities, many knew they couldn't bring their beloved pets with them.

Although the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary is not a temporary boarding facility, the sanctuary found space to help the community during the challenging time. The result: 36 cats, 12 dogs and three birds were entrusted to the sanctuary for safe keeping while their owners headed elsewhere to safety.

"Our mission is to save lives, and even though we are not a boarding facility, we knew the community needed us and we were happy to help," said Janet LuCore, founder and president of the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary.

Once the evacuations were lifted and people drifted back into town, their pets were happy to be reunited with their owners, according to LuCore.

The Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organization which is run by volunteer help. Those that would like to support the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary can go to http://www.fallbrookanimalsanctuary.org and click on "donate" to make a one-time donation or sign up for recurring donations.
