The magic of color appears at flower show

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Garden Club recently celebrated spring with a horticulture specialty flower show, "The Magic of Color". The event, co-chaired by Marci Eisenstadt and Eva Raines, was held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fallbrook April 7 and was enjoyed by attendees and exhibitors alike.

Various horticulture entries were submitted and after a panel of judges completed their assessment, ribbons were awarded to the best in each category. The following is a list of the section winners. The National Garden Club Top Awards are indicated with **.

Education** – The Magic of Butterflies: Save the Monarch – Christina Sangster Fallbrook Garden Club Awards – Eva Raines (Pelargoniums/Geraniums); Lisa Pavel (Annuals/Biennials)

Award of Merit** – Mary Ann Gagne (Roses); Lisa Pavel (Perennials); Kathleen McInally (Bulbs/Corms/Rhizomes)

Arboreal Award** – Lisa Pavel (Trees/Shrubs)

Grower's Choice** – Nancy Woodard (Container grown flowering /foliage plants); Ellie Knight (Container-grown Cacti/succulents)

Joe Goble Award – Paula Manning (Fruits/Nuts/Vegetables)

Sue Conroy/BJ Russell Award – Christina Sangster (Best in Cacti/Succulents or Combination Plantings)

Shogo Yamaguchi Award – Norma Gomez (Flower Show Chairman's selection of Best in Horticulture Division)

Award of Horticultural Excellence** – Ellie Knight (Most outstanding exhibit in the Horticulture Division)

Sweepstakes – Mary Jo & Chuck Bacik (Most blue ribbons won by a Fallbrook Garden Club member)

In all, there were 366 entries to the show. In addition to the flower show, visitors had the opportunity to shop at the plant sale where over 1,000 plants were available for sale. The flower show was the Fallbrook Garden Club's gift to the community and is part of the club's objective to create and promote interest in horticulture, floral and landscape design, plant and bird life and encourage civic and environmental responsibility.
