It's cool to be kind

FHS students organize Day of Kindness, commemorate Columbine

FALLBROOK – Students at Fallbrook High School organized a Day of Kindness on April 20 to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School tragedy, an event that has changed the way people have looked at violence in schools.

Many students in George Herring's Honors English 10 class decided to read "Columbine" by David Cullen for their nonfiction unit. As a project cap to that activity, the students created a Day of Kindness to honor the 13 lives lost at Columbine High School in 1999.

The event, which largely took place during lunch that day, involved students asking others to perform one kind act for each life lost.

"We asked students to expand their friend group, or simply do something nice for another person," said Bethany Bishop, one of the organizers of the event.

Students also signed a banner and received a commemorative card to stay mindful of their kindness challenge.
