Car club visits Griffith Park and Nethercutt Museum

FALLBROOK – More than 40 members and guests of the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club took a charter bus trip to the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round in Los Angeles and the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar.

The Carousel, owned by a car club member, Rosemary West, was built in 1926. There are 68 hand-carved wooden horses that date to the mid-1880s. Members observed the mechanisms that power and control the platform of the carousel and the workings of the

famous pipe organ. Everyone got a ride and learned of its history, including that Walt Disney used to come on Sundays with his daughter and she learned to ride it as a young girl. West then treated everyone to lunch.

The Nethercutt Museum, owned by the Merle Norman cosmetics company family, exhibits more than 130 of the finest cars in the world from the 1890s to the 1950s. Many cars from manufactures had a short life span, not making it through the Great Depression or world wars.

Car club members had a two-hour guided tour through the four floors of the collection, which includes musical instruments from around the world, especially pipe organs from Europe. A musical recital was given to demonstrate the power and sound of the third largest pipe organ in the world in existence.

A special tour was then given through the shops where automobile restorations are started and completed. Also, on the premises is a 1937 Canadian-Pacific Royal Hudson locomotive and passenger cars.

The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club regularly has outings for its members. For more information visit: FallbrookVintageCarClub.org.
