Camp Pendleton Fire Department conducts 170-acre prescribed burn

CAMP PENDLETON – The Camp Pendleton Fire Department is scheduled to conduct a prescribed burn in the November training area near the installation's border with Oceanside starting at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19.

The burn is scheduled to last up to six hours.

Over 90 firefighters from Camp Pendleton, Los Angeles Fire Department, and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar will participate.

Burning existing dry vegetation will reduce available fuel for future fires and help maintain native species of grass.

Smoke will be visible from the I-5 freeway and SR 76 in the vicinity of Oceanside and Camp Pendleton.
