Fallbrook well-represented at scholarship luncheon

FALLBROOK – Several of Fallbrook's California Retired Teachers Division 81 members attended the annual awards luncheon for the Scholarship Foundation of North San Diego County CalRTA, which was held at Twin Oaks Golf Club in San Marcos, May 23.

The mission of the Scholarship Foundation is the promotion and development of education by awarding scholarships to graduates of North San Diego County high schools who have achieved high standards in academics and citizenship and have chosen to pursue careers in education. In addition, scholarships are awarded to fifth-year credential candidates from San Diego State University and California State University San Marcos.

The foundation has been awarding scholarships for more than 30 years to deserving students, offering financial support to pursue a college education and eventually a career in teaching or related educational fields. During the foundation's existence, more than 460 young people have been scholarship recipients.

The foundation receives its support through the fundraising efforts of CalRTA Divisions 45, 63 and 81 and through donations of retired teachers, their families and their friends.

Three high school seniors received scholarships awarded at the luncheon, and four credential candidates were presented with scholarships. Fallbrook CalRTA member Bill O'Connor is on the foundation's board of directors, and he officiated as the master of ceremonies for the event. Two Fallbrook members were among the scholarship presenters.
