Encore Club welcomes new members

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Encore Club welcomed graduates from Newcomers Club at the annual Flyup Luncheon, May 24. The party was held at Eastridge Clubhouse and featured a delicious meal prepared by Louis Molnar.

Membership in Newcomers Club is over after two to three years, and at that time those members moving on are welcome to join Encore Club. Seven of the Newcomers joining Encore Club attended the luncheon, and they were welcomed by the 50 encore members in attendance. Birds were the theme, and Pacific Animal Production brought birds to share with guests.

Helene Beck, owner of La Vigne Organics and author of the cookbook, "Jewels From My Grove," gave a talk earlier this year to Encore Club members and shared the story of how she and her husband had to try several crops that would not grow on their land until they came upon persimmons, kumquats and blood oranges. These fruit are grown at her orchard now and are showcased in her cookbook.

Beck is vice chairwoman of the San Diego Chapter of California Certified Organic Farmers with the goal of raising awareness regarding genetically modified organisms and stopping the growing of genetically engineered food in San Diego County.

There are no Encore Club meetings in July and August. Meetings will resume Sept. 4, and continue to be held the first Tuesday of each month at the United Methodist Church, 1833 Winterhaven, in Fallbrook. Residents of Fallbrook, De Luz, Rainbow and Bonsall are welcome to visit a meeting. Coffee and refreshments are served 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., with the meeting starting promptly, 10 a.m.
