Fallbrook hosts Freedom for Families rally

Several Fallbrook activist groups came to the corner of Mission and Ammunition roads to rally against family internment camps Monday, July 3.

According to their flyer, people from the Fallbrook Human Rights Committee, Indivisible Fallbrook and the Fallbrook Democratic Club spoke out to "stop the family detention camps in Camp Pendleton and in solidarity with the #freeourfuture actions in San Diego."

With loud chants, big signs and waving American flags the activists took a stance on what they believe in. Among the crowd and leading most of the group chants was Ann Woodall. Woodall is affiliated with Indivisible Fallbrook and said she choose to get involved because she believes families belong together.

"It's becoming a police state. It's horrible and it's right in our backyard. We promise to be here until something is done," Woodall said.

Already having attended four rallies this week, Costa Delsol came to Fallbrook to make a difference.

As she yelled out, "no justice, no peace," Delsol said she will not rest without getting out to every rally she can. She doesn't want family detention centers in her backyard and is concerned about the potential move of families to Camp Pendleton.

"If we don't stand up now, when do we stand up? That's why I am here, to say something because if we all sit at home and just like stuff on Facebook that really won't change anything," Delsol said.

Indivisible Fallbrook member Diana Fink and North County Democrats member Kathleen Boyle held a sign saying "resist, persist, rise." They stand to express their concern about the potential of Pendleton and the separation of families at the borders. Fink said this issue cuts across party lines, religion, faith and church.

"This has got to stop. We need to be on the right side of history; this is a moral disaster in the works," Fink said.
