Local author releases book about her racing experiences

DE LUZ – Have you ever longed for adventure? That was the wish of Gayle Kott, author of the recently released book, "Diary of a Racer's Wife."

For over 25 years, adventure is what she got. Kott tells the story of a life spent at various amateur racing venues with her husband Fritz and their four sons.

Meeting at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the mid-1980s Fritz and Gayle became an inseparable team, both on and off the race course. Their adventures took them from the glaring white Salt Flats and the California desert to the highways of Mexico to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway, with lots of other fun in between.

Racing was always a family event in the Kott household, and raising four sons in the midst of this lifestyle presented its challenges.

"Very little cannot be overcome with patience, faith, and a good sense of humor," Kott said.

Kott has been a resident of De Luz for over 30 years, and some of the stories in the book took place locally.

"Life with Fritz wasn't always easy," Kott said, "but it was never boring."

"Diary of a Racer's Wife" is available at Outrider Motorsports in Bonsall and online at Amazon.com.
