County Supervisors Cox and Roberts call for child welfare systems review

SAN DIEGO - San Diego County Supervisors Greg Cox and Ron Roberts today requested Chief Administrative Officer Helen N. Robbins-Meyer create a group to conduct an assessment of the county's child welfare system and recommend improvements.

The working group the supervisors seek will work under the county's Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council. The 13-person group would look to make improvements in ensuring the health and safety of foster youth in the county

"Our Child Welfare System has made great progress in recent years while implementing new state and federal regulations, but we believe in continuously improving our programs and services to better serve our children,'' Supervisor Cox said.

Supervisors Cox and Roberts have in the past served on subcommittees for the San Pasqual Academy and the Polinsky Children's Center.

The council expects a full report from the working group by November and a list of recommendations for the Board of Supervisors by December.
