Firefighters hold small brush fire to less than acre

Just after 1 p.m. today, North County Fire and Cal Fire San Diego units reported being on the scene of a 1/2 acre vegetation fire in the area of Gavilan Mountain Road and Rock Mountain Road. No structures were threatened and no roads were closed.

Dubbed the Ranchitos Fire, just an hour later, North County Fire Protection District announced on Twitter that fire crews had halted the forward progress of the fire to a half acre. They announced that crews would remain on the scene in a mop-up role.

By 6 p.m., North County Fire announced the fire was 100% contained at a little more than three-quarters of an acre.
