CWO4 (Ret.) George E. Jones, Jr.

CWO4 (Ret.) George E. Jones, Jr., 79, passed away on July 27, with his wife and children at his side.

George was a leader from a young age, a high school athlete, and class president before joining the Marine Corps as a young adult. While stationed in Sacramento in 1963, he met Carolyn, the love of his life. George's love of learning led to a B.S. in criminal justice administration from SDSU and a master's degree in educational administration from USIU.

George's 22-year Marine career included two tours to Vietnam. Nearly 40 years ago, the family moved to Fallbrook, where he worked in real estate and as a security officer at Fallbrook High School. He was known to many Fallbrook youth as "Mr. Jones," and made a lasting impression on all he encountered.

Involvement in his children's activities was integral to his midlife. George served as president of Camp Pendleton Youth Baseball and the FUHS Band Boosters. For the past 30 years, he and Carolyn enjoyed being season ticket holders of the San Diego Padres, following them from Jack Murphy Stadium to Petco Park, always hoping for a winning season.

George will be remembered as a loyal family man, an avid baseball fan, and someone who always had "a way with words."

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn, his son George III, daughters Margaret (Mark), Lori (Jim), and Kendra (Beth), niece PeggySue, his 11 beloved grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the San Diego Zoo or the Fallbrook Senior Center. Services at Miramar National Cemetery will be held in November.
