Last week’s front page article about the “grassroots campaign” to build a new Bonsall high school shouldn’t be passed off as a news article. This was a press release and propaganda.
There were no opposing views offered, even though there are several well-known organizations who have who have attended the school district’s board meetings voicing their objections and concerns about the proposed school. There were unsubstantiated statements made about property values rising if the school is built.
The “article” stated that the current high school is overcrowded. The article said that a new school is necessary because of overcrowding. But the Village News reported earlier that the current high school only graduated 56 seniors this last spring.
The school district’s own 2017 audit revealed that only 32 percent of Bonsall middle school children who graduated from the eighth grade chose to go to the current high school; perhaps because they have better options (such as online schools) or don’t want the high tech high offered by the Bonsall Unified School District?
Brick and mortar retail stores are closing at dramatic rates in favor of online shopping. Getting an education may be headed in that direction soon, making large high schools not necessary.
In the near future voters will be presented with facts from both sides so they can make informed decisions.
