Chamber displays avocado-themed quilt

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce announced the newest addition to adorn their office – an avocado-themed quilt, comprised of commemorative T-shirts from past Avocado Festivals.

The handmade work of art was delicately pieced and sewn by local quilter, Sandy Scott, who is also a member of the Fallbrook Quilt Guild.

Scott took about 20 hours to construct this quilt, starting with avocado fabric, fusible interfacing, binding and the T-shirts.

"The T-shirts were backed with fusible interfacing so they wouldn't stretch as I handled them," Scott said. "I cut each image from the shirt as large as I could initially, and then I used the fusible on the back of the shirts. The shirts were cut again and laid on the floor to see what the arrangement would look like, and this was done several times. The binding was sewn to the edge of the quilt, then finished by turning it to the back and hand-stitching it into place."

The quilt is available for viewing at the chamber offices at 111 S. Main Avenue, in Fallbrook.
