Fallbrook Library offers many free events in September

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Library will host many free events this month including concerts, a lecture, a movie and the Kindergarten Gear Up for children and their parents.

Monday, Sept. 10, 1 p.m. – Insight Book Club will meet to discuss the novel “Killers of the Flower Moon,” an account of the 20th century murders of wealthy Osage tribe members and law officials and the beginning of the FBI.

Thursday, Sept. 13, 6 p.m. – Lecture: Comedian and historian Darryl Littleton will present “Why We Laugh,” the history and importance of comedy, sponsored by the Friends of the Fallbrook Library.

Tuesday, Sept. 18, 10:30 a.m. – Kindergarten Gear Up is a 10-session program provides skills needed for entry into kindergarten for children 4 to 5 years old and their parents. Learn to practice kindergarten readiness skills with a different topic each week.

Thursday, Sept. 20, 1 p.m. – Concert: Freaney & Friends’ guest speaker will be professor Violeta Petrova who will give a recital on the piano music of Fanny Mendelssohn. Dr. Angela Thompson will provide a small lecture on Mendelssohn’s life.

Thursday, Sept. 20, 7 p.m. – Concert: Jazzgrass was put together in 1999 by Barnaby Finch to honor the newer and more progressive side of bluegrass music. Enjoy the fusion of bluegrass and jazz, as sponsored by the Friends of the Fallbrook Library.

Sunday, Sept. 23, 3 p.m. – Concert: Trio Celeste presents chamber music as the ensemble-in-residence at the Claire Trevor School of Arts of the University of California Irvine. A pre-concert talk is set for 2:30 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 27, 6-7:30 p.m. – Cinema at the Library presents this month’s film, a documentary that is an exploration of the life, lessons and legacy of an iconic children’s television host.

Sunday, Oct. 7, 2-3 p.m. – Acoustic Showcase: Jody Mulgrew has been accompanying his tenor voice with acoustic guitar for years, first as the front man for a band and as a solo artist for a decade. His playful melodies appeal to hearts of all ages.
