FG&MS members to share treasures

FALLBROOK – After a summer hiatus spent mostly at the San Diego County Fair, members of Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society will gather on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the FGMS building, 123 W. Alvarado St., for their annual fall potluck and member "Share & Sell" event.

This is a great opportunity for the public who might be interested in checking out this active non-profit organization to come and meet members and get acquainted with their activities. The potluck begins at 6 p.m. and everyone is asked to bring a dish to feed six people.

During the potluck, a slideshow of a week-long field trip in August to the Eastern Sierras will be presented by participants Bill and Patti Smith and Mary Ingorvaia. They will share their adventures to the Alabama Hills in Lonepine, the Reward Mine in Inyo County and visits to the Eastern California Museum in Independence, the Laws Museum in Bishop and the ghost town of Bodie.

Treasures found included calcium carbonate, petroglyphs and the amazing ancient Bristolcone Pine Forest in the White Mountains, home to the oldest trees in the world, some exceeding 4,000 years of age.

After the potluck and slideshow, a brief business meeting will be held, followed by the "Share & Sell" event. Members will display items from their personal collections or will offer their handcrafted earth science items until 9 p.m.

The meeting is free with parking available on the street and in the lot across from the building. For inquiries, call (760) 728-1128, or visit http://www.fgms.org.
