NCFPD donates gurney to Oceanside High School Health Academy

OCEANSIDE – North County Fire Protection District's Battalion Chief Greg Wilson presented a Stryker gurney to the Oceanside High School Health Academy, Sept. 11.

"As we remember the tragic events of 9/11, it is fitting that we honor the first responders by doing something like this," John Choi, captain paramedic for North County Fire, said.

The academy enables students to investigate and prepare for a career as a healthcare professional by blending the academic challenges of Advanced Placement and college-articulated classes with career technical classes and hands-on learning.

"This first responder class has been around for two decades, but we have never received a gurney like this one," Rhonda Brown, first responder teacher for Oceanside High School, said. "The kids are really excited, and this will enhance their learning."

The academy's curriculum includes a first responder module geared for students interested in fire or emergency medical services careers. The donation of pre-hospital capital items supports the academy's mission.

"We donated this gurney so that the kids can have the actual device that they will use in the pre-hospital setting when treating patients," Wilson said. "These programs are so important in preparing the next generations of first responders, and it is an honor to support them with this donation."
