Community involvement makes Day for Kids successful

FALLBROOK – The Boys & Girls Clubs of North County opened their doors once again to hundreds of children and their families Sept. 15 for their annual Day for Kids event.

Day for Kids is a tremendous community event designed for youth and their families to enjoy quality time together while participating in free games, face painting, swimming, prizes and the signature Lucky Rubber Ducky Race; no club membership required.

The highlight of this year’s event was the strong level of community support. Organizations like Blue Star Families, Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve and Fallbrook Sheriff’s Department shared information on the resources they provide local families. North County Fire Protection District also joined the fun with their fire engine and paramedics’ truck for families to enjoy, while also demonstrating CPR basics.

The 5th Battalion 11th Marines chose to divide and conquer by helping with the creative carnival games and serving free cotton candy and snow cones. The Marines were also joined by the Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook as they helped sell pizza and drinks to the families.

“We are so excited to see all the wonderful support from our community partners,” said Allison Barclay, chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County. “Day for Kids is such an amazing event for the families in our community but none of it would be possible with the generous support of these organizations.”

The event was an incredible success with children walking away at the end of the day with brand-new toys, and prizes like specialized mountain bikes, caricatures and painted faces. Regardless of the prizes in their hands, everyone left Day for Kids with a smile!
