Fallbrook Beautification Alliance gives thanks for Major Market customer generosity

FALLBROOK – Customers shopping at Major Market during August and September had the opportunity to make a donation to the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance's "Wipe Out Graffiti" Campaign. A total of $1,850.36 was raised by customers dropping spare change or generously supporting the fight.

Since the beginning of 2018, the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance has removed 1396 tags in and around Fallbrook, which represents 434 volunteer hours of scrubbing, painting, washing and scouring. The team of just five volunteers, led by Marta Donovan of the FBA, includes Dan Clouse, Susan Huff, newest volunteer Brenda Carden and Scott Donovan.

With the generous donation by Major Market customers, the FBA was able to purchase a pressure washer, which will greatly increase the effectiveness of the team's removal efforts on concrete and brick surfaces.

In spite of all of the hard work, graffiti continues to be a problem in Fallbrook. At the same time, calls into Fallbrook's graffiti hot line are at an all time low. "Please call the Graffiti Hotline (760) 451-3144 if you see any graffiti in Fallbrook," requested Donovan, "and the volunteer senior patrol officers will photograph it and upload the photos into their database."

This process is the best way to ensure speedy removal, as well as provide the means for the Sheriff's Department to watch for trends, identify problem areas, and track gang activity. FBA also recommends that residents and businesses consider completing a Crime Report if their property has been tagged with graffiti, as this is also an important step in documenting the crime, will aid in the building of a case for the prosecution and determining restitution costs.

Readers who may have missed the opportunity to donate at Major Market, or are interested in joining the FBA graffiti clean up team or one of the many other FBA teams working to clean up and beautify Fallbrook, may do so at http://www.fallbrookbeautification.org.

The Fallbrook Beautification Alliance extends heartfelt gratitude to Major Market and their generous customers during this Thanksgiving Season.
