FGMS has plenty of holiday events

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society has lots of holiday activities on its December calendar, and the public is invited to attend.

FGMS will participate in the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce’s Wine & A Bite event Dec. 7, hosting a local winery and food establishment in the FGMS meeting room. Tickets are available from the chamber office or online http://www.fallbrookchamberofcommerce.org.

FGMS member artisans will demonstrate various lapidary skills and display their creations, and the FGMS museum and gift shop will be open for visitors. The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

On back-to-back Saturdays – Dec. 8 and Dec. 15 – FGMS will hold its annual Holiday Boutique, showcasing members' gem and mineral passions and talents with handcrafted jewelry, unique earth science gifts, ancient fossils and more. These free events will take place on the FGMS building’s front patio, weather permitting, and in the meeting room from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The society’s annual meeting will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m., with activities including election of the 2019 officers and directors, announcement of the 2018 Volunteer of the Year, a fabulous silent auction and holiday treats. The free gathering will be held in the FGMS meeting room.

The FGMS museum and gift shop will be open to the public throughout December on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum has many new exhibits, including the addition of three new cases just inside the door displaying examples of smaller sized “rough and cut” minerals and gemstones. The gift shop has many unique earth science items, from mineral and fossil specimens to jewelry, books and decorator items.
