Fallbrook Blanket Project receives $2,000 grant

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Blanket Project, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, recently received a grant of $2,000 from the Graef Family Foundation.

The Fallbrook Blanket Project was begun in November 2014 with the mission to provide blankets and other knitted or crocheted items to persons in need. To date, the project has created and given away over 350 twin-sized blankets and over 3,000 lap blankets, afghans, baby blankets, and other items.

Completed blankets and items have been given to worthy agencies including Fallbrook Senior Center Home Meals Delivery Program, Camp Pendleton Hospital, Operation Homefront, Serenity House, Solutions for Change, Operation Hope, Center for Community Solutions, Project Safe House, Women’s Resource Center, Fallbrook VFW, and Polinsky Center for Child Protective Services.

Additionally, more than 60 blankets, afghans and other items were sent to aid the Houston and Rockport, Texas flood victims. Blankets were also given to Lilac fire victims. The project is currently preparing to send over 60 blankets, afghans, lap blankets and baby blankets to the Paradise, California fire victims.

Other items are regularly donated to fundraising events for REINS, Foundation for Senior Care, Fallbrook Senior Center, Fallbrook Pregnancy Resource Center, Women’s Resource Center, Fallbrook Food Pantry and the Boys and Girls Clubs of North County.

The project welcomes anyone interested in knitting or crocheting to come to its two weekly sessions: Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon and Friday, same times, at the Fallbrook Public Library. Both groups include English- and Spanish-speaking individuals. Yarn, hooks and needles are provided along with instruction for those just learning.
