AAUW members take students on an artistic tour

FALLBROOK – On Presidents Day, many members of the American Association of University Women mentorship group visited four unique artistic venues in Fallbrook. They started out at the Fallbrook Art Center where the director, Mary Perhacs, gave them many insights on the juror's selection process, her own curating challenges and many interesting facts about the artists and their art at the Watercolor and Beyond exhibition.

From there, they had an opportunity to walk through the building and grounds of the Grand Tradition where special events, such as weddings, are held.

After that, the group drove back to town and had a special visit with Rosemary West in her studio behind the Fallbrook School of the Arts. She has been renovating her historic merry-go-round, which in Griffith Park in Los Angeles. She told us stories about how she came to own the merry-go-round and how Walt Disney created his vision for Disneyland while sitting on the benches there where he took his daughters every weekend when they were young.

The girls and their mentors then had lunch inside Fallbrook School of the Arts. After lunch, they toured the campus which includes ceramics and printmaking studios. Since mentor Karen Langer Baker is both a ceramist and printmaker as well as painter, she was able to explain all about both processes.
