Fallbrook's own take home high honors at Realtor gala

Three local residents were recently awarded at the 2018 North San Diego County Association of Realtors Installation Gala. Stacey Angstead, sales executive at Ticor Title, was named NSDCAR's "Associated Professional of the Year" while Tim Kirk, Realtor at Pacific Sotheby's International Realty's Carlsbad office, was bestowed a brand-new award for his "Community Service." Nancy Layne, Realtor at Windermere Homes and Estates, earned "Volunteer of the Year."

The gala was held Jan. 26 at the Cape Rey Hilton in Carlsbad and included a dinner, awards ceremony and dancing. NSDCAR's board of directors were officially installed along with 2019 President David Cabot. Chris Hasvold, broker and owner at Coldwell Banker Village Properties, presented awards at the ceremony along with Raylene Brundage, real estate agent at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.

North San Diego County Association of Realtors is one of the largest Realtor associations in Southern California with more than 6,000 professional members.

Stacey Angstead – 2018 Associated Professional of the Year

Angstead has been selling home titles for 22 years and said she was honored by the recognition of her award.

"I was thrilled because it represented such a large group of people that were eligible for it," she said.

She had received a similar award on a smaller scale, but never for all of north county.

Roxanne Kelemen, a senior sales executive at Ticor Title and Angstead's business partner of four years, said Angstead's award was very well deserved.

"I don't know any person in her position who reaches out to educate herself on a variety of different challenges that may arise in the title business," Kelemen said. "She represents this industry with such a high level of sensitivity and commitment for all of those who use our brand in the title industry."

The pair used to compete against each other before they became partners. Angestead lives with her husband in Fallbrook.

Tim Kirk – 2018 Realtor Community Service Award Winner

Kirk is a retired U.S. Marine and business sales expert who became a Realtor after moving to Fallbrook five years ago. Kirk isn't short on prestigious awards for real estate. Kirk was nominated as one of the Top 10 Realtors and Favorites in the San Diego's Union Tribune Readers Poll. As the top producing Realtor in San Diego last year, Kirk was nominated for "Team Realtor of the Year" and was awarded the Recognition of Excellence Gold Award by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors where he sold 39 units and $25 million worth of residential real estate during the award period.

A lifetime member of Fallbrook's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1924, Kirk said that what truly motivates him for success is his passion for helping others and giving back to the community.

"If you help others, you'll never have to worry about having enough for yourself," he said.

Kirk is a certified military relocation professional and is known for his support of veterans. Last year, Kirk personally donated more than $10,000 to nonprofit organizations such as the Mighty Oaks Foundation, a faith-based program that helps combat veterans overcome post-traumatic stress disorder; the Gary Sinise Foundation, who serve the nation by honoring its defenders, veterans, first responders, their families and those in need; the Honor Foundation, an institute for the Navy SEALs and U.S. Special Operations community to advance their career goals and a nonprofit Kirk co-founded called "Hire Our Heroes," which provides veterans the tools they need to succeed in today's workforce.

In addition, Kirk supported the Fallbrook Food Pantry, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of San Diego, and the highlight of his year was raising over $5,200 for Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure at the San Diego Over the Edge event where he rapelled more than 300 feet down the side of the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in memory of the son of a friend and retired Navy SEAL.

"It was a huge honor to be nominated by your peers for work that you do to give back to others," Kirk said.

Nancy Layne – 2018 Realtor Volunteer of the Year

Layne, a third generation San Diegan, said she was shocked and honored to receive her award. After 31 years in the local real estate industry, Layne has been nominated for numerous sales awards, but said, "This is more meaningful to me because it is really about how much you give back and to me that matters."

Layne has been involved on the board of directors for the North San Diego County Association of Realtors for over 20 years. As a volunteer, she has acted as chairwoman for a number of hearings in ethics and disciplinary complaints, as well as a mediator. That means when a member of the public or a Realtor has an issue, she is on the volunteer panel who listens to that complaint and determines whether it is in violation.

Layne wears many hats as a Realtor at Windermere Homes and Estates. She is a senior risk management member, an assistant to the broker, a real estate agent and a mentor to new agents. Most recently, she serves as director for the California Association of Realtors.

"Everything I do to stay on top of the contract, the legal issues and the problems and concerns facing our industry is so that I can be the best advocate for my clients and the agents I serve," she said on her website.

Layne is also wife and mother of two children. She and her husband have lived in Fallbrook for two years. They said they love the close-knit community feel and supporting the town by eating and shopping locally.
