DAR members help children celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday

FALLBROOK – In the first week of March, Daughters of the American Revolution, Luiseno Chapter members Anna Anderson, Cindy Greer and Bonnie Hayosh along with Riverside County Supervisor Chuck Washington assisted different venues to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Cindy Greer of Fallbrook met with Christ the King Preschool in Fallbrook and spoke to preschoolers about the author before reading "Happy Birthday to You!" Her granddaughter and the other children joined Greer in wishing Dr. Seuss a happy birthday by snacking on chocolate mint ice cream and blueberries.

Then March 6, Greer read the same titled book to Teresa Karl's first-grade students at Fallbrook STEM Academy. The students enjoyed the rhyming text, and Greer encouraged their participation. She gave each child a coloring page to complete featuring the Cat in the Hat.

Anna Anderson of Hemet read Dr. Seuss' "Happy Birthday to You!" to two classrooms – one at Crowne Hill Elementary in Temecula and the other at Temecula International Academy. Both sites received a copy of the book for their libraries.

Washington dressed up for the Ronald H. Roberts Temecula Public Library's "Seussapalooza" event Friday, March 1. He read Seuss' "Happy Birthday to You!" to those attending that celebration and donated the book – a gift from DAR Luiseno – to the library.

All of the Dr. Seuss books were donated to each school's library by the Luiseno Chapter's Literacy Committee chaired by DAR member Bonnie Hayosh of Winchester. The Luiseno Chapter promotes literacy as part of DAR's mission to support education, historical preservation and patriotism.
