The Point Loma High School Pointers pulled off a 6-1 win in girls softball after facing off against the Fallbrook High School Lady Warriors.

The Warriors and Pointers held each other to zero runs through the fifth inning, until Point Loma was able to adjust to a change in pitching and broke the scoring silence, getting the upper hand on Fallbrook with a 2-0 lead to end the fifth. The Pointers continued to gain momentum, earning an additional three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh and leaving the Warriors behind with one run scored in the sixth due to challenging pitching from Point Loma.

Despite the loss, second-year head coach Rey Harmon is ready to continue his method of rebuilding the softball program and hopes to facilitate growth and success amongst his players, he said.

His process begins before high school, when he and assistant coach Dan Howley develop future Warriors’ skills by providing clinics with the local recreation league, Fallbrook Girls Softball. Upon reaching high school, the girls will be well prepared for the highly competitive level of softball his current team is facing, he said.

“Our system of softball is designed around playing against the best, toughest, and most experienced teams willing to play us,” Harmon said.

Harmon teaches his team that challenges will encourage them to progress by teaching them the ability to overcome, he said. League play for Fallbrook began April 9 at Mission Vista High School.
