Zion Christian School becomes a blended learning center

FALLBROOK – Zion Christian Learning Center has embraced a new education model called "Blended Learning." For those who are unfamiliar with the concept of blended learning, the term refers to the incorporation of online curriculum, project-based learning, face-to-face instruction and flexible scheduling. This innovative education model has become increasingly popular in California over recent years.

Parents who appreciate the benefits of both online learning and the traditional classroom model often feel that blended learning combines the best of both worlds. Specifically, both online learning and project-based learning allows students to learn at their own pace and pursue personal interests.

Traditional classroom instruction, on the other hand, fosters peer learning, collaboration opportunities and better communication and social skills as students work together to solve problems.

At Zion, "learning coaches," otherwise known as teachers, fill a crucial role, providing specialized academic support to students in their core classes. Learning coaches also provide guidance and encouragement to students who are engaged in project-based learning.

The typical school day includes time in the morning for students to focus on core subjects, and enrichment activities in the afternoon. Enrichment activities include music, art, PE and chapel, to name a few.

Parents of Zion students partner with their choice of independent study charter schools. Many of these parents, who considered their children to be "homeschoolers" in the past, appreciate the opportunity Zion gives their children in terms of academic support, tutoring, peer socialization and enrichment.

Other benefits of Zion's Blended Learning Program include low teacher to student ratios, low monthly fees, curriculum resources that learning coaches can tailor to each student's learning style, flexible seating and flexible scheduling.

Zion Christian School and Learning Center serves students from first to 12th grade. For more information, contact the school at (760) 723-3500 or visit http://www.zcslc.org.
