Fallbrook Music Society presents four hands piano

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Music Society invites everyone to a one-of-a-kind concert experience with Four Hands Piano Sunday, Sept. 22, at 3 p.m., featuring Fallbrook favorites Anna Grigorian and Natasha Gubenko.

The concert will be held in the community room of the Fallbrook Public Library and is free to the general public. No tickets are required.

"If you have never seen four hands piano, it's thrilling," Bob Freaney, president of the board of directors of Fallbrook Music Society, said. "Not all pianists can do it, because four hands requires the unique ability to not only 'to perform' but also 'to listen.'"

Four hands is two pianists performing simultaneously on one keyboard and requires amazing concentration, synergy and skill. It evolved based on venues, having started in smaller spaces where there was only room for room for one piano.

In four hands piano, one pianist sits by the lower-tone keys playing the bass left-hand notes with both hands and the other pianist plays the treble right-hand notes with both hands. The Sept. 22 program features works from a number of composers including Claude Debussy, Antonin Dvorak, Franz Schubert and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Grigorian hails from Tbilisi, Georgia. She earned her master's degree in musicology and piano pedagogy at the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan, Armenia.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, she briefly lived in Aleppo, Syria, where she led an active teaching and performing career, serving as a principal accompanist with the Narekazi Chorale. In 1995, she moved to the U.S. and relocated to California in 2009 where she is active teaching, performing and lecturing.

Gubenko is from the Ukraine and immigrated to the United States in 2000. She holds bachelor's degree and master's degrees in piano performance and pedagogy from Tel-Aviv University's Buchmann-Mehta School of Music.

While in Israel, Gubenko worked as a principal accompanist with Youth Symphony Orchestra students in Haifa. She maintains a successful private studio in Irvine where she teaches piano.

The concert begins with a program preview at 2:30 p.m. More information is available through http://www.FallbrookMusicSociety.org.
