FALLBROOK – In Fallbrook, a group of volunteers are gearing up to launch a voter registration drive starting Sept. 24 and running through Feb. 17, 2020.

The group plans to register 2,020 new voters in Fallbrook with a target of increasing turnout in downtown Fallbrook, as it currently has the lowest registered voter count. Registering by Feb. 17, 2020, would allow registrants to vote in the primary election March 3, 2020.

Leticia Maldonado, a volunteer with the group, said, “We invite local businesses, nonprofits, schools, churches and community groups to get involved in the effort by joining us and signing up to become a National Voter Registration Day partner at nationalvoterregistrationday.org.”

“We plan to be out in the community Sept. 24, registering eligible citizens to vote, encouraging registered voters to update their registration and to get involved in this registration campaign. We plan to make this a bilingual effort and invite Spanish speakers to join us,” Ricardo Favela, another volunteer with the group, said.

According to the website Nationalvoterregistrationday.org, “The goal for the 2019 National Voter Registration Day is to increase participation by encouraging eligible voters to register and come out to the polls in 2020. As a nonpartisan unofficial national holiday, National Voter Registration Day counts on thousands of partners and volunteers across the political spectrum. “Started in 2012 for the presidential election, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering citizens to exercise their most basic right – the right to vote.”
